Buying a leather suite.

Real leather is a natural product. It breathes, is warm and has individual characteristics, which make each hide unique. Leather will always bear the marks of its natural origin and these characteristics can show as healed scars, neck growth marks and areas of differing fibre density and hair pore structure.

These hallmarks in no way detract from the wearing qualities of the leather can show as healed scars, neck growth marks and areas of differing fibre density and hair pore structure.

When buying a leather suite it is important to decide which is the best type of leather for you i.e. Suede, nubuck, analine. If you have a  young family, it would be unwise to buy one of the luxury type, uncoated leathers. These, in a high use environment, can soon become very shabby looking as they readily absorb dust and dirt and are easily susceptible to staining as they absorb any liquid spills. For this type of family use, leather that is protected by a sealant is much preferable as it can easily be cleaned and repels liquid.

Uncoated leathers, such anilines, semi-anilines or nubuk are most suitable for low use environments where the consumer is prepared to accept a leather that is designed to age gradually  stretch and crease and generaillv become as comfortable as a sheepskin coat or suede boots.

It is also worth considering a suite where all the cushions are detachable, often with zips. This aids cleaning and is also useful if any corrective work has to be done on the furniture.eg. maybe cuts in coat
